so, my 3 1/2 year old son is obsessed with star wars, more specifically, darth vader and storm troopers...it was while i was showing him images of darth vaders house ( the death star) that i came across these images of the late british sculptor, barbara hepworth, and saw a likeness that fascinates me...wonder if mr lucas knows of ms. hepworth?!
after all these years, still the most comfortable and best looking chair around. i think when i die i want to be sitting in one of these on a beach in treasure beach in jamaica. 'nuff said!
now i'm not sure about you, but my writing changes with every pen...this caran d'ache ballpoint is the only pen i can really write with, and it's simple, pencil-inspired design doesn't hurt either!
the wild bunch, who eventually became massive attack plus...the young man in front in the striped sweater is non other than the great nelly hooper.. these boys really know how to make a tune. still one of the most influential bands in the world to me, and i'm honored to call them my mates...
i'm really looking forward to this movie, can't wait to see how the great tom ford approaches film, and my friend arianne phillips is the costume designer...a meeting of 2 great fashion minds!!
i've loved kaws' work since the early days when i lived in NYC and he was doing his bus stops and phone boxes. we used to hang out a bit too...how i wish i'd gotten a piece back then. they still look fantastic, and he's just gone from strength to strength!
there are way too many of this mans paintings and sculptures for me to choose just one, but keith haring has always been one of my favourite artists, for both his work and the fact that he loved to do murals in public places for free. can you imagine what he'd be commenting on in his work if he was alive today?!
alberto giacometti. tall figure III and tall figure II. 1960. i've always loved the proportions and the haunting beauty of giacomettis sculptures. these sum it up perfectly
love the vibe of this old don james photo. don't know who the guys are or their story, but they are so cool! think i may have been born 20 years too late!
i couldn't resist more of irving penns work to show the diversity of his subject matter...truly inspiring! i mean, who could make cigarette butts look like art? ( and no 'tracy emin' answers please!)
irving penn passed away today. coincidentally i went to see the small trades exhibition at the getty today...unbelievable images of tradesmen in the '50's. the images above just show how a true inspirational genius can adapt to different subject matter.
